A prison for the mind, deep below the lunar maria, a few years before her escape; or, perhaps a turning point on the long path to becoming Night Mare Moon; maybe neither of these. I leave the interpretation of time and place to you.
Luna's canon tiara has always bothered me; I never really cared for the way it was just kind of stuck in her mane...it's a cartoon, sure, but the design felt bland too. While my version probably needs further revision, I tried to allude to qualities I find sharply defined in NMM: powerful and unrelenting; austere, but not without elegance; sharp, and dangerously beautiful.
Edit: minor change to composition. Edit 2: Her eyes were bothering me; I redid the ink & paint, and also made her horn better match her body size. MLP (c) Hasbro A special thanks to Lauren Faust & the MLP Team!
Great picture, she looks like the younger version or at least what I consider the younger version (lighter coat/solid mane) I would say right on the brink of NMM, unsure of who she is, what she wants or what she is. Very cool, and great job with the question as to where the tiara rests, it looks relatively natural. I find it very interesting that NMM's helmet (or whatever it may be called) is resting next to her, but her gaze is more directed to something else. Very open to interpretation... I love it!
You touched on pretty much everything I was trying to include to create a bit of story in the image! I also generally imagine that the solid mane/lighter coat indicates a younger age for her, although for this painting I kind of suspend that headcanon and can look at it either way. Thanks for taking a moment to look through the composition, and for leaving your thoughts...I really enjoy the feedback
I dont know how you did it, but somehow this image literally tells a story, and yet at the same time remains silent. You captured a very moving image in this piece of art, and I have nothing but the highest commendations to you. Beautiful.
